Jana Stanfield
This song is based on the wisdom of Dick Semaan, who inspired many of us with his words of warmth and humor. On the day I would’ve shared this song with him, I sang it instead at his memorial service. I trust that he was smiling at all the good things that were said about him that day by family and friends.
Life won’t always turn out
Like you hoped it would
Caught in disappointment / It’s hard to see the good
First you ask why, then shake your fists at the sky
Finally you cry and you make it to the other side
(Chorus) Bitter or better
Bitter or better
Bitter or better … the choice is up to you
Bitter or better…what’s it gonna be
Bitter or better…what you gonna do
Bitter or better…the choice is up to you
Once a very wise man
Said these words to me
There’s no greater teacher
Than adversity
First you ask why, then shake your fists at the sky
Finally you cry and you make it to the other side
(Chorus) Bitter or better
Bitter or better
Bitter or better … the choice is up to you
Bitter or better…what’s it gonna be
Bitter or better…what you gonna do
Bitter or better…the choice is up to you
(Repeat chorus out)
