Itinerary
October 14 – 26, 2012
Day 1 ROME, ITALY ~ Hello from Jana. I’m in Turkey tonight, writing the words that, I hope, will inspire you to join Susanna and me on this amazing, one-of-a-kind trip. I’ll start by answering a question: Our Dreams Come True Trip starts today as we check into our hotel and take time to leisurely wander the nearby historical and shopping areas. You can get your bearings today, enjoy Rome’s awesome Italian restaurants, then gather for our Orientation Celebration late in the day, where we’ll try some Italian wines (or sparkling water) and toast each other’s success in answering the call to join us.
Day 2 Rome ~ If you have a chance to watch “Gladiator” before this trip, do it, because today we’ll visit places that were depicted in that film, and get a taste of what life was like back then for the citizens of Rome at it’s glittering peak. After a hearty breakfast, we’ll set off for the world famous St. Peter’s Square, followed by a visit to the Roman Forum (the original downtown area) and the mighty Colosseum. (B)
Day 3 ROME, PISA, FLORENCE, into TUSCANY ~ Have your camera ready today, with lots of space on your card, to capture the rolling hills and amazing villas. You’ll be amazed at the scenery as we roll through Tuscany. We’ll stop in Pisa to visit the Leaning Tower, then continue to Florence for a traditional Tuscan dinner. (B)
Day 4 FLORENCE, TUSCANY ~ Susanna and I spent days wandering the streets of Florence last December, and I also spent New Year’s Eve there, finding the places we most wanted to share with you. We’ll visit the statue of David today, along with the Piazza Santa Croce; the Piazza Signoria; the Palazzo Vecchio; the Loggia dei Lanzi; and, completing our day, the Piazza del Duomo.(B,D)
Day 5 FLORENCE AREA, VERONA, VENICE AREA ~ Another beautiful journey through Tuscany today, on our way to Verona to see the legendary balcony of Romeo and Juliet. We will be close to Venice, and will soon be walking alongside the beautiful waterways. (B)
Day 6 VENICE ~ We’ll start the day on the waterway, then start our walk through the magical side streets and bridges, letting ourselves get lost in the narrow passageways between the canals. The gondola rides are pricey, but if you’ve always dreamed of doing that, we can help you make it happen and we’ll take plenty of pictures for your scrapbook. (B,D)
Day 7 VENICE AREA, RAVENNA, ANCONA, OVERNIGHT CRUISE TO PATRAS, GREECE ~ We’re headed to Greece today. Can you believe it? The most important sites of Italy AND a cruise to Greece? On our way to the Adriatic Seas, we’ll pass through medieval Ravenna. This afternoon, we climb aboard for our overnight ferry to Patras. (B)
Day 8 PATRAS, OLYMPIA ~ We’ll finish our beautiful boat ride in the afternoon, after cruising the picturesque coastlines of Italy and Greece. We’ll spend our first night in glorious Greece tonight, in the charm of historic Olympia. (B,D)
Day 9 OLYMPIA, TOLON ~ This morning, you’ll have time to explore on your own, or take an optional tour to the Temple of Zeus. This afternoon, on our journey through the majesty of Greece, we’ll pass through Tripolis on our way to beautiful Tolon. (B,D)
Day 10 TOLON, MYCENAE, ATHENS ~ We’ll start today with a guided tour to the ruins of Mycenae, then continue on our journey to the most important city in Greece…Athens. (B)
Day 11 ATHENS ~ Yes, we will have a tour of the Acropolis today, and if it’s warm enough, we may even go to the beach for a swim. Please pack up this afternoon, so that tonight, we can celebrate of all that we’ve experienced together. (B)
Day 12 ATHENS ~ It’s up to you now, friends. You’re not going to want to go home! Do you want to stay in Greece for awhile, go back to Italy, or go someplace you’ve never been? Heck, you’ve come this far, you could go on around the world before you go home! Our friends at Cosmos will take care of the details for you, so you get to choose!(B)
